Welcome from the Headteacher

Welcome to the Icknield School web site. Icknield School is a special day school in Andover, Hampshire, for students with severe learning difficulties, our students are aged from 3 – 19 years old. There are 65 students on roll currently. We have small class groups with a high level of adult support, enabling our students to make progress at their individual rates. Our post-16 unit is based in a bungalow within the Andover community about a mile away from the school site.

Our Early Years group follow the Foundation Stage curriculum. Our 5 – 16 year old students follow the National Curriculum at a level appropriate to their individual needs and our post-16 students follow the ASDAN curriculum. We work closely with other professionals including Speech and Language Therapists and Physiotherapists. We use local facilities for swimming, horse riding, gymnastics and for developing other independence skills. Some of our students integrate into local mainstream schools.

Students come from the local and wider area within a radius of about 20 miles. The name of our school comes from the Icknield Way, which was a prehistoric trading route between Salisbury Plain and the Wash.

We are proud to support the Andover Vision and its principles of

·        Passionate Participation

·        Inclusive for Everyone
